While installing Galacticraft is usually straightforward, this tutorial will walk you through the process step by step. If you’re experiencing trouble with the installation or the first run of the mod, it’s a good idea to read it all the way through.
We hope you had as much fun with the mod as we did develop it!
First, a query: Is Forge already up and running on your computer?
Yes: So, whichever version of Minecraft you chose, you can already play other mods? In such a situation, Galacticraft installation is a breeze.
No, first follow the instructions in #Installing Forge, then return to this page!
- First step:
Find the Galacticraft version you wish to play on our official Downloads page. Because we change the Galacticraft build from time to time to add new features or correct issues, this is organized according to various Minecraft versions and also different Galacticraft builds. (Do not download our mod from unofficial sites such as 9minecraft.) (Don’t bother looking for the Developer builds; they’re just for mod programmers!)
We recommend using the latest build of Galacticraft, which is supplied to you at the top of the list, regardless of whatever Minecraft version you choose. If that isn’t what you’re looking for, you may find previous versions by scrolling down the page.
Galacticraft requires all three files to be downloaded:
Please double-check that the downloads of all three files have been completed before proceeding. A Galacticraft download may take a minute or two to finish if your internet connection is sluggish or you are downloading other things at the same time.
- Step two:
Place the three Galacticraft files in your Minecraft/mods folder. (What if you don’t have a /mods folder in your Minecraft directory? See #Installing Forge for further information. Don’t know where to look for the Minecraft folder on your PC or Mac? (For further information, see here.)
Make sure to delete any previous versions of the GalacticraftCore, Galacticraft-Planets, and MicdoodleCore files from your /mods folder before proceeding. If you have two distinct versions of the same mod in the /mods folder, the game will not start!
- Third step:
Start Minecraft with Mojang’s regular (vanilla) Minecraft launcher, pick the Forge profile, then press the Play button.
That’s how simple it should be.
Extra Note for First-Time Modders:
If this is your first time playing with modifications, you may need to configure your Minecraft launcher to run the right version of “Forge.” Pick a Forge profile (bottom left). Check that you’re using Forge for the Minecraft version you wish to play (bottom right):
If your launcher profile isn’t set to play with Forge for the Minecraft version you want, go to Edit Profile, look in the center of the screen (Version Selection), and update the Use version: to the Forge version you want. The Forge versions are usually at the end of the list of versions. [Mojang’s official guide on this.]
Now is the time to move on:
You may begin your journey to space once you’ve installed the mod (and if you wish to install any additional modifications now is a good time to do so) and your Minecraft has loaded properly.
(One more thing: the first time you launch Galacticraft, your computer must be connected to the internet.) That’s because it needs to be able to download another file, commons-codec-1.9.jar, automatically.)

It’s a good idea to read our compatibility notes if you’re merging this with other modifications or creating your own modpack. We also have wiki articles dedicated to Game Balance and Configs, as well as additional setup information.
